Human Growth Hormone – a wonder drug against ageing?

September 30th, 2007 · 4 Comments

Human Growth Hormone (HGH) is gaining popularity among different target groups – from athletes, bodybuilders and other sport-active people to elderly people. Before spending a fortune there are certain facts to be aware of.

Growth hormone is produced in your body naturally to help fuel growth during the childhood and to help maintain your tissues and organs throughout your life. While ageing its  production is slowly reduced. Some people believe adding GH and raising its natural levels will prevent ageing symptoms. But there’s little evidence to suggest human growth hormone is the Fountain of Youth.

Different studies from arround the world have proven the positive effects of Human Growth Hormone such as increasing bone density and muscle mass, decreasing  body fat, improving the heart performance,  improving mood and motivation, increasing the exercise capacity and stimulating growth in most body tissues by increasing the number of cells rather than their size. This all leads to belief that synthetic human growth hormone can help healthy older adults who have naturally low levels of growth hormone regain some of their youth and vitality. Unfortunatly there are very few studies to prove the asumptions available. But one thing is certain: human growth hormone injections can increase muscle mass and reduce the amount of body fat in healthy older adults. Unfortunately muscle mass increase doesn’t always translate into increased strength. However strength training can increase both your muscle mass and your strength, making it cheaper and more effective than taking human growth hormone.

On the other hand taking human growth hormone can cause a number of side effects, including swelling in your arms and legs, arthritis-like symptoms, headaches, bloating, muscle pain, diabetes, abnormal growth of bones and internal organs, hardening of the arteries, high blood pressure and similar.

Before using Human Growth Hormone it is the best way to consult your doctor. If experimenting by yourself, try a cycle or two to see the results and continue it afterwards. Also don’t forget about the simple steps, such as eating a diet full of fruits and vegetables and exercising daily, can help keep your body in shape and help you feel better about yourself as you get older.
